It's a typical Thursday afternoon around 3pm... just surfing the 'net a bit to stay awake at work here...
I was on Wikipedia and searched "PHRF".
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PHRFSeems to me that there is more than a little "opinion" creeping into the page rather than actual fact. Since I'm no PHRF expert I thought I'd encourage somebody here to take a look and maybe make some changes as they see fit. (Jamie?)
Statements like:
"An assumption that a rated boat is in bristol racing condition with a clean bottom, new sails and an experienced crew. This assumption excludes those with shallow pockets and experience from the winners circle and discourages many boats from racing."Sounds like they are trying to show how PHRF is flawed as compared to a golfer's handicap.
"PHRF tends to be extremely political since rating values are very subjective and not based solely on empirical data. It is not uncommon for PHRF officials to strongly influence ratings of their own boats to their favor."The first part may be true. If the second is true, then we've got some real problems!
