Welcome to Performance Handicap Racing Fleet
Lake Ontario’s home page.

In December 1979, 12 yacht clubs along the south shore of Lake Ontario
gathered to discuss area wide PHRF ratings to facilitate their inter-club racing.
Thus laying the foundations of PHRF Lake Ontario.

Since that time, PHRF-LO has grown to include over 60 yacht clubs, 100 Club
Handicappers and over 1500 active certificate holders.

Over the past 2 decades, hundreds of dedicated volunteers have spent many hours
of their own time developing the PHRF-LO system and have helped issue yacht racing
handicaps
to over 4000 owners around the lake.

With sister organizations throughout Canada and the United States, PHRF
has held its place as one of the top yacht racing handicap systems in North America.

A & S Spinnakers Print E-mail
It has been recently recognized by Central Council, that we have harshly imposed penalties to those boats that carry both a Symmetrical and Asymmetrical Spinnaker.

Our manual currently states the following:
Part II, Section 7.2.7.1.a
3) Asymmetrical Spinnaker penalties will be calculated as per 7.2.2 through 7.2.4 and are to be in addition to any symmetrical spinnaker penalties Part II, Section 7.2.7.1.b
3) Penalties will be calculated as per 7.2.1 and are in addition to any asymmetrical spinnaker penalties

They are acknowledging that we should only impose a penalty against the largest of the two spinnakers as only one spinnaker can be flown at a time.

Therefore they have decided by majority vote to accept the following statement:
When a boat is carrying both Asymmetrical and Symmetrical spinnakers and both have penalties, the greater of the two penalties shall be applied to the ASP calculation.

As such the following has been done:
1. Any certificate holder who currently has this configuration and has incurred a penalty for both sails, has had their handicap adjusted/corrected and certificate re-issued.
2. Handicappers with above certificate has been notified in a separate email.
3. All necessary modifications to the handicappers manual.(to be published to the web soon) 4. Revised Handicappers Worksheet has been uploaded to our web site. Version 6e (also includes up-to-date class listings)
