The Basics

Lets start with the basics!

At the top of the screen you will see the following:

V.12 f is the Version number for the "whole" worksheet.

It is important to ensure that you use the most recent version of the worksheet which will include the most up-to-date formulas for calculations and adjustments.

Rel "Date" is the date that the Standard Class List (SP List) was last updated.

It is also important to ensure that you use the most recent "Date" which will include an up-to-date list of all PHRF-LO classes.

Clear Sheet (Button on right)

After completing a worksheet you have the option to remove all entered data. By clicking on the "Clear Sheet" button all entered values will be returned to their original state.

Line numbers are used throughout the workbook to help direct you to the correct "place" on the worksheet.

To begin with, you need to know that throughout the "Handicappers Worksheet" you will find that all boxes (cells) that are Green are for entry purposes and all boxes (cells) that are Grey contain "lists" of items that you can choose from. Boxes that are Yellow will be filled in by the form.

Class Being Compared

Choosing the Class you want to compare.

The first thing that you need to do is tell the worksheet if this is a "New" or existing PHRF-LO class on line 3 (Is this a new class?)

The worksheet is defaulted to "No", which means that the drop down list will consist of currently handicapped PHRF-LO classes.

If you choose "Yes", the worksheet will look to the "Initial Assignment" tab to populate the drop down list.

Link to instructions for the "Initial Assignment" tab.

Finding Comparables

Finding Comparables!

Once you have picked a class that you want to find comparables for, you must enter values into the "differences" cells.

NOTE:
Line 5 - includes all the class specifications (for the class you chose).

The worksheet has default values entered in the "LWL" and "Disp" differences cells of 5%.

You can delete those "preset default" values and start entering values you feel are pertinent to your search.

The cells are formatted to accept values as "sec n/m" for the FS-SP & NFS-SP and as a percentage (%) for all other differences.

NOTE:
Line 7 - the worksheet calculates the "Minimum Value that will be included in the search"
Line 8 - the worksheet calculates the "Maximum Value that will be included in the search"
Line 12 - shows you how many classes your search has filtered to. The maximum you can display is 10 classes.

Filtered Classes

Filtered Classes!

As you enter values into the "differences" cells the "List of classes that are similar" will be displayed.
There is a maximum of 10 classes displayed at any time and you can continue to enter "differences" in order to further filter this list.

NOTE: the values for the "Maximum" & "Minimum" listed on line 7 & 8 will help you to further filter the classes.

You can now use the filtered classes for comparisons.

Comparisons

Comparisons!

Now the fun begins.
You can now compare specific classes with the filtered data or any other handicapped class.

NOTE:
** - Classes marked with a double asterisk (**) are benchmark classes. These are classes that the Central Council of Handicappers have marked to indicate confidence in the current handicap. Comparisons to benchmark boats is strongly encouraged.
Class Choice - is not limited to the filtered selections. All classes are available for comparison via the Class Name drop down.

The classes you choose as "Compare Classes" can now be used to "AUTO" populate the next 2 tabs:
